Yangjiang Export Hardware Shears as Pillars

From January to July 2010, the city's export situation was gratifying: the total value of exports reached 860 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 30.8% year-on-year. A small flashlight has a monthly export value of nearly 4 million U.S. dollars. It is precisely with a large number of such products that Yangjiang’s foreign trade exports have had outstanding performance in the rapid growth of total volume and continuous optimization of the structure.

Foreign trade professionals are accustomed to refer to the United States, the European Union, and Hong Kong as the three major traditional export markets of Yangjiang. The proportion of Yangjiang’s exports to all of its exports over the years is roughly “three-two hundred thirty-two.” Others are collectively referred to as emerging markets and share the remaining two percent.

Looking at the "Yangjiang Country of Final Product" statement, in the city's export value of 860 million U.S. dollars, exports to emerging markets amounted to 245 million U.S. dollars, and its share also reached 28.4%, an increase of about 10 percentage points from the previous year's share.

It is gratifying not only to increase the proportion, but to the overall growth of emerging markets: export of 44 million US dollars to Latin America, an increase of 70.2%; exports to ASEAN 3,689 million US dollars, an increase of 79.8%; exports to Africa, 13.24 million US dollars, an increase of 42.5%; Russia exported 12.21 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 71.3%. In addition, the growth of Yangjiang’s exports to some small countries can be described as “strong”. Among the 151 export countries or regions, there are 34 more than doubled, of which the most prominent is the Dominican Republic. The absolute value is 552. Ten thousand dollars, an increase of 42.3 times.

Data Description: The slogan of market diversification that has been buzzing for many years is becoming a reality.

By July, the city’s water and seafood exports were 200 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 54.7 percent, accounting for 23.3 percent of Yangjiang's total export value. During the same period, metal products exported 340 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 13.2%. Visible, water and seafood products are becoming the general export pillar with hardware knife and scissors products.

In the “Yangjiang Export Commodities” report of the customs, 18 kinds of bulk commodities have exported more than US$10 million. Among them, the absolute value of the first place is the production of shrimp, up to 74.6 million US dollars. The first increase was in the production of fish, an increase of 1.7 times, with an absolute value of US$31.36 million; the growth rate was ranked second in the aquatic products, fresh shrimp, which almost doubled, and the absolute value also stood at US$ 36.94 million.

In the face of a fickle market, whether the export growth can be maintained, the test is whether the speed of product innovation can exceed the speed of product elimination, and whether product innovation can adapt to changes in market demand. Yangjiang's foreign trade exports scored high on this exam.

The author saw a number of rapidly growing product names on the report: a 79-fold increase in CD players, a 6.7-fold increase in porcelain kitchen appliances, a 1.5-fold increase in light-emitting diodes, and a 1.2-fold increase in single-speaker audio.

There are also enterprises introduced through investment promotion in recent years. Although their products are not new, they have become a new force in Yangjiang's foreign trade exports. For example, the monthly flashlight export value is close to 4 million U.S. dollars and still has a growth rate of 63%. Centrifugal pump exports in a single month amounted to 2.4 million US dollars, an increase of up to 90%; food grinders and agitators in the first seven cumulative exports of 14.26 million US dollars, an increase of 84%.
