NEG develops bendable solar cell glass with a thickness of only 0.1mm

The world's third largest manufacturer of glass substrates for liquid crystals, NEG (Nippon Electric Glass), has developed a glass product for use in next-generation solar cells, the "Dye Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC)." Its thickness is only 0.1mm, and it has heat resistance characteristics that will not be deformed even at a high temperature of 500 degrees. NEG plans to start selling it in 2014. It is reported that various motor manufacturers such as Sony and Nissha are currently actively developing DSSCs that can generate electricity using indoor faint light, and are expected to mass-produce within 1-2 years.

According to reports, the product developed by NEG is used to protect Cover Glass on the surface of solar cells, and a transparent conductive film is coated on the surface of a glass having a thickness of only 0.1 mm. Compared with the current products, its thickness and weight are only about 1 /10 or so. The report also pointed out that since the glass developed by NEG is thin enough and flexible (flexible), it can also be used to produce flexible solar cell products.
