In fact, many people are confused because “chicken essence” often contains no actual chicken. A reporter visited Shangchao Island and found that most chicken products on the market list ingredients like “chicken soup,” “concentrated chicken,” or “eggs” in their ingredient lists. When the reporter checked the ingredient lists of several well-known chicken essence brands in a supermarket, they found that the top ingredient in “Tai Tai Le” was chicken soup, made from water and high-concentration chicken juice, along with chicken oil. Another brand, “Houji,” listed “concentrated chicken” and “eggs” as key components.

However, what is labeled as “chicken” in these products isn’t considered real chicken by professional chefs. Su Guoyuan, a renowned culinary expert, shared his experience visiting a major domestic chicken production facility. During the visit, he didn’t see any chicken bones or feathers. “The ingredients used in chicken essence, such as concentrates, are sourced from other factories and then added into the final product. It’s not made directly from fresh chicken,” he explained. This raises questions about the authenticity of the label and how consumers perceive the term “chicken essence.”

As more people become health-conscious and demand transparency in food labeling, the debate around chicken essence continues. While some brands do use real chicken products, others rely heavily on flavor enhancers and processed ingredients. This discrepancy highlights the need for clearer regulations and better consumer education.
