Shower FAQ

Q: While using my rain showerhead, I noticed that the water flow isn't consistent. Instead of a fine mist, there are spots where the water comes out in thick columns. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

A: There are a couple of things that might explain why your showerhead isn’t performing as expected. First, many modern showerheads have adjustable spray settings. It’s possible that the spray setting has been inadvertently changed. Try rotating the nozzle to see if you can switch between different modes. If adjusting doesn’t help, the issue might be due to mineral buildup inside the showerhead. Over time, minerals from the water can clog the tiny holes in the spray face. To resolve this, you’ll need to clean the showerhead thoroughly. Start by unscrewing the small round cap located in the center of the showerhead using a flathead screwdriver. Once you’ve opened it, use a Phillips screwdriver to take out the screws and disassemble the showerhead. Then, rinse the components under running water and scrub the holes gently with an old toothbrush. This should help remove any debris or mineral deposits. Afterward, reassemble the showerhead and test it again.

Q: I've noticed that after using my shower for a while, some of the holes stop spraying water completely, while others still work fine. What’s the best way to deal with this problem?

A: There are generally two types of showerheads available in the market. Some have hard materials like metal, which require cleaning with a needle to remove blockages. Others are made from softer materials such as silicone, which can often be cleaned by hand. I’d recommend going for the silicone option because it's easier to maintain. However, it’s important to note that the quality and durability of silicone can vary depending on the brand. So, make sure to choose a reputable manufacturer when buying a new showerhead. Additionally, regular maintenance is key. Periodically soaking the showerhead in vinegar or a mild descaling solution can help prevent clogging and extend its lifespan. Simply fill a plastic bag with the solution, wrap it around the showerhead, and secure it with a rubber band. Leave it on overnight, then remove it and run the water through the showerhead to flush out any remaining residue. This should help keep your showerhead functioning smoothly.
