History: Small workshops make big deals

“Yucheng County began to introduce diamond micropowder processing technology from the early 1980s. At that time, there were only 2 enterprises engaged in the production of diamond micropowder, all of which belonged to family-style workshops.” Yucheng County Xiangtai Abrasives Co., Ltd. Guangming introduced that the two bosses were workers at the county's wire drawing factory at that time. "It can be said that without them, there would be no glory in the diamond industry today."

In the following years, this family-style workshop has been increasing and expanding. In the early 1990s, several of the earlier developments came out of the original family-style workshops, and established the first batch of diamond-making enterprises in the county, which also drove the rapid development of the county's diamond industry.

In addition, Henan Huifeng Diamond Co., Ltd. is also a giant in the diamond industry of the county. “The factory is built for a long time, with technology and talents, and it belongs to the old-fashioned enterprise.” Han Jinghe knows the diamond micro-powder enterprises in the county.

By 2005, the county had 50 diamond micro-powders and products processing and production enterprises, producing 2 billion carats of diamond powder, 50,000 sets of diamond wheels and 100,000 drill bits, with an output value of 1 billion yuan. The county's diamond micropowder industry successfully and quickly completed the original accumulation of capital and became the national diamond micropowder processing and production base.

By 2006, the county had built an industrial park, increased investment in attracting investment and various preferential policies, and provided an opportunity for diamond micropowder and product processing and production enterprises that were in urgent need of development platform.

According to reports, the diamond micro-powder enterprises that settled in the industrial park at that time included Xinyuan Superhard Materials Co., Ltd., Yucheng County Zhongyuan Superhard Abrasives Co., Ltd., Yucheng County Zhongyu Superhard Materials Co., Ltd., Yucheng County Jinxin Abrasives. Co., Ltd., Yucheng County Hongxiang Superhard Materials Co., Ltd. and more.

“These companies are the first enterprises to enter the park and have played a supporting role in the development of the park,” said Wang Liansheng.

By 2009, the original industrial park was upgraded to an industrial agglomeration area, and there were more and more preferential treatments in terms of investment attraction, environmental construction, and enterprise services. At this time, diamond micro-powder enterprises have grown to more than 20 companies. And in the industrial agglomeration area, the Yucheng County diamond micro-powder and product processing production base was established.

Status: vigorously extending the industrial chain

Before 2009, the county was mainly engaged in the processing of diamond micro-powders, and there were no enterprises engaged in diamond production. In 2010, the County Party Committee and the County Government established the Power New Materials Group in the industrial cluster area in accordance with the needs of the development of the diamond industry in the county and in the purpose of extending the diamond industry chain and further expanding the diamond industry.

The project covers an area of ​​215 mu, with a total investment of 1.5 billion yuan. It has built a 4,500-square-meter comprehensive office building, a technology research and development building, and 10 single-storey 5,000-square-meter standardized workshops with a building area of ​​60,000 square meters.

“The project is a diamond industry group integrating diamond production, diamond micropowder processing, diamond fine extraction, diamond product production, etc. It has an annual output of 1 billion carats of diamonds, and produces 250,000 pieces of diamond grinding wheels and 400,000 drill bits. Arranged more than 1,200 people to work," said Gao Jinquan, deputy director of the county's industrial cluster area.

Power New Materials Group and Huifeng Diamond Co., Ltd. have become the platform for the development of the high-tech industry of diamond products in the county, accelerating the pace of industrial restructuring of diamond superhard materials and the extension of the industrial chain.

In 2011, the county's diamond micropowder production reached 4.5 billion carats, 460,000 diamond wheels, 780,000 drill bits, and 1.1 million other products, accounting for more than 80% of the national diamond market share. The county has formed a relatively complete industrial chain from “raw and auxiliary materials (carbon rods) – synthetic diamond – diamond micro powder processing – diamond products”. It is the processing base with the highest cluster of diamond industry and the most complete industrial chain in China.

According to statistics, there are more than 160 enterprises engaged in the processing and production of diamond micropowder and products in the county, employing more than 8,000 people. The county's industrial agglomeration area has been rated as the national superhard material base, Henan high-tech characteristic industrial base, and Henan province's characteristic equipment manufacturing industry demonstration park.

The future: implementing a big brand strategy

In 2011, the diamond industry in the county's industrial clusters achieved an output value of 4.36 billion yuan, a profit of 523 million yuan, and a tax revenue of 47 million yuan. "This year, the annual total output value of the diamond high-tech industry will reach 5 billion yuan." Gao Jinquan said.

The development of the characteristic industry has a process of transforming from a block economy to a cluster economy. To achieve this transformation, the government needs to strengthen guidance, so that enterprises can develop dislocation and take the road of differentiated competition.

“To take the road of differentiation is to take the road of individualization.” Gao Jinquan said, encourage and support powerful enterprises to introduce advanced equipment and technology to produce new types of diamond products, so that each enterprise has its own superior products and further extend the industry. Chain, increase the added value.

“Implementing a big brand strategy and creating a regional brand of “China·Superhard Materials” is the general direction for the development of the diamond industry in the future.” Gao Jinquan believes that vigorously promote the construction of regional brands and industrial brands, focusing on key enterprises and superior products. Objects, guiding enterprises to continuously improve technology, quality, marketing capabilities, striving for first-class brands, and expanding market share, this is the focus of their work in this industry in the future.

"The big brand strategy needs technical support, and the technical guarantee is still talent." Shao Zengming, head of Henan Power New Materials Group believes that the future competition is the competition of technology and talent.

Under the impetus of the government, the county has established a market-oriented, industry-university-research-integrated, financing market-oriented diamond high-tech industry scientific and technological achievements transformation system. At the same time, it supports the cooperation between universities and research institutes and enterprises, and establishes an industry-university-research cooperation technology research and development center with enterprises as the mainstay, market-oriented, product development and transformation of results.

“The diamond industry in our county has introduced a group of high-tech talents, and cooperated with research institutes such as Henan University of Technology and Northeastern Polytechnical University to increase investment in research and development. Now, our county has owned diamond abrasive materials and products engineering in Henan Province. Two technical research centers have solved the problem of disconnection between research and production.” Gao Jinquan believes that only in this way can enterprises survive in the market competition.
