In the university years, Qu Shengxue majored in welding engineering. He stepped into the AVIC industry at an early stage and has since dedicated himself to the research and management of welding technology. With passion, he used welding as a tool to build the dream of a strong aviation sector, constantly striving for excellence in the field of aerospace power.
Qu Shen graduated from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in 1987 and later earned a master's degree in welding from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2005. From the beginning of his career, he was deeply involved in materials welding research, new technology development, and equipment innovation. He led multiple engine welding projects, playing a crucial role in advancing aviation engine material connection technologies.
His expertise spans a wide range of advanced techniques such as robotic automatic welding, inertia friction welding, laser welding, laser surface impact strengthening, vacuum brazing, diffusion welding, electron beam welding, and microbeam welding. His leadership in these areas has significantly contributed to the technological growth of the AVIC industry.
Throughout his career, Qu Shen has participated in numerous product development initiatives and led over ten major research projects. He has developed cutting-edge welding technologies that have enhanced the application level of welding in the industry. He has also completed several key material welding research projects, laying a solid foundation for product implementation.
He played a key role in the electron beam welding of complex components like turbine casings and hubs. He oversaw the development of a large-scale vacuum argon welding machine, which filled a critical gap in the company’s capabilities and improved product quality. During the development of heavy-duty gas turbines, he led a team to complete electron beam welding for compressor discs and turbine parts, as well as submerged arc welding for casing components, solving many challenging welding issues.
Qu Shen also focused on integrating foreign technologies and successfully conducted special welding process audits in Hainan, bringing Dawn’s welding technology up to international standards.
“We must use a scientific approach to solve welding challenges and turn material connections into our strength,†he often said. This philosophy drives his work, and through it, he has overcome many difficult obstacles in welding.
In terms of technical transformation, Qu Shen led the introduction of multiple advanced welding systems and equipment, making significant contributions to the development of new technologies. He actively promoted research on laser processing technologies, including laser shock peening, laser welding, and laser rapid prototyping, conducting both theoretical and practical studies.
Over more than two decades, Qu Shen has left a deep mark in the field of welding technology. He has received prestigious awards such as the "Outstanding Contribution Award for Aviation in America" and "Outstanding Young Intellectuals of Shenyang City." He has also been honored with the Second Prize of National Defense Science and Technology and the Second Prize of AVIC Technology. The company’s welding laboratory was recognized as a “Liaoning Province Special Welding Production Technology Open Laboratory†by the Liaoning Provincial Economic and Trade Commission.
To ensure the continued growth of the company, Qu Shen has actively planned its future development. He has compiled several important documents, including the “Twelfth Five-Year Welding Technology Development Plan,†“Aviation Engine Manufacturing Capacity Planning Plan,†“Aerospace Engine Materials and Manufacturing Technology Special Research Plan,†“Laboratory Construction Plan,†“AVIC Industry Dawn Aviation Development Thoughts on the Central Project Proposal,†and the “Aeronautical Engine Manufacturing Technology Atlas.â€
Despite his white hair, Qu Shen remains committed to the aviation industry. At 47 years old, he has built a team of skilled welding experts who continue to push the boundaries of the field.
