In the university years, Qu Shengxue majored in welding engineering. He entered the AVIC industry at its early stage and has since dedicated himself to the research and management of welding technology. With passion and dedication, he used welding as a tool to realize the dream of a strong aviation industry, constantly pursuing excellence in the field of aerospace power.
Qu Shen graduated from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in 1987. Later, he earned his master’s degree in welding from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2005. From the very beginning of his career, he focused on material welding research, the development of new technologies, and equipment innovation. He led multiple engine welding projects, playing a key role in advancing the technical capabilities of the company.
His expertise spans a wide range of advanced welding techniques, including robotic automatic welding, inertia friction welding, laser welding, laser surface impact strengthening, vacuum brazing, diffusion welding, electron beam welding, and microbeam welding. As a leader in these fields, he has significantly contributed to the development of material connection technologies for aviation engines.
Throughout his career, Qu Shen has participated in numerous product development initiatives and led over ten major research projects. He has been instrumental in improving the application level of welding technology by developing advanced methods. His work on new materials welding research has laid a solid foundation for practical applications.
He successfully completed the electron beam welding of complex components such as turbine casings and led the development of a large-scale vacuum argon welding machine. This innovation filled a critical gap in the company’s technological capabilities, solving complex titanium alloy welding challenges and enhancing product quality. During the development of heavy-duty gas turbines, he guided his team to complete electron beam welding of compressor discs and turbine parts, as well as submerged arc welding of casing components, overcoming numerous technical obstacles.
His efforts also extended to international collaboration. By analyzing foreign materials and conducting audits for special welding processes in Hainan, he helped bring Dawn’s welding technology up to global standards.
“We must use a scientific approach to solve welding challenges and turn material connections into our strength,†he often said. This philosophy has driven him to tackle and conquer many difficult welding problems.
In terms of technical transformation, Qu Shen led the introduction of several advanced machines and equipment, making significant contributions to the development of new technologies. He actively promoted research on laser processing, conducting both theoretical and practical studies on laser shock peening, laser welding, and laser rapid prototyping.
Over more than two decades of technical research and leadership, Qu Shen has received numerous awards, including the “Outstanding Contribution Award for Aviation in America†and the “Outstanding Young Intellectuals of Shenyang City.†He has also been honored with the Second Prize of National Defense Science and Technology and the Second Prize of AVIC Technology. The company's welding laboratory was recognized as the “Liaoning Province Special Welding Production Technology Open Laboratory.â€
To ensure continued growth, Qu Shen actively planned the future of the company. He organized and compiled several key plans, including the “Twelfth Five-Year Welding Technology Development Plan,†“Aviation Engine Manufacturing Capacity Planning Plan,†“Aerospace Engine Materials and Manufacturing Technology Special Research Plan,†and others.
Now 47 years old, Qu Shen continues to work tirelessly on the front lines of process technology. He has built a team of skilled welding experts who carry forward his vision. Today, advanced welding technologies are being applied in production, and every breakthrough is a testament to the team’s hard work and intelligence. Each weld on the components represents his dream of national prosperity and patriotism.
