NTN bearing load introduction

Load is the most important factor in choosing a bearing. It is understood that the load size is related to the bearing type. Roller bearings can generally accept heavier loads than ball shafts with the same outer dimensions, while bearings with rolling element overflow raceways can be subjected to larger loads than responding bearing bearings. Ball bearings are used in places where light or medium loads are accepted. For heavy or large diameter shafts, roller bearings are preferred.

Load bias

The choice of bearing is also related to load deflection. For pure radial loads, deep groove ball bearings or cylindrical roller bearings are available. Thrust ball bearings are only suitable for accepting excessive pure axial loads. One-way thrust ball bearings can only accept one axial load, and two-way thrust ball bearings and two-way thrust angular contact bearings can accept two axial loads. When the NTN bearing accepts the combined load of the radial and the axial direction, the angular contact ball bearing or the tapered roller bearing is generally used. Four-point contact ball bearings and two-way thrust angular contact ball bearings accept two biased combined loads with axial loads.

The primary feature of the combined load is that the axial load capacity of the NTN bearing depends on the contact angle a, and the larger the angle, the more suitable it is for the axial load. The axial load factor Y decreases as the contact angle is added. The contact angle and axial load capacity of deep groove ball bearings are related to radial clearance.

Angular contact ball bearings and tapered roller bearings can only accept separate axial loads. If the load deflection needs to be changed, the oppositely biased bearing should be placed to accept the axial load.

When the axial load in the combined load is large, the thrust bearing is only used to accept the axial load regardless of the radial load. When a suitable single row radial ball bearing or a four point contact ball bearing is used to accept the axial load, the outer ring and the seat hole must have a radial clearance.

Torque load

When the load effect deviates from the middle of the bearing, the overturning moment is exhibited. Double row ball bearings, such as double row deep groove or double row angular contact ball bearings, can be used as overturning moments. However, it is preferable to use a pair of angular contact ball bearings or a pair of tapered roller bearings, which are available in a face-to-face type and a back-to-back type. It is also possible to insert cylindrical rollers or insert tapered roller bearings.
