Shanxi Further Consolidates Coal Resources and Pays Attention to Coal Mine Safety

In 2011, Shanxi Province led the way in completing the consolidation of its coal resources and the mergers and acquisitions of coal mines, marking a significant transition into modern mine development. Over the years, the province's coal mine safety situation has seen remarkable improvement, with the fatality rate per million tons dropping to an impressive 0.085. This year, starting August 10th, Shanxi initiated a comprehensive campaign targeting the renovation and production licensing of mines, integrating weak gas and water management facilities, improving mine management practices, and enhancing overall safety supervision. These efforts were part of a broader initiative aimed at ensuring the safety of coal mines over a critical 100-day period. By mid-November, more than 200 mines were shut down, placed on suspension, or had their licenses revoked. During this period, Shanxi conducted thorough safety inspections and隐患排查 across all coal mines in the province. The provincial government dispatched 11 inspection teams to oversee safety improvements in all 11 cities. These teams closely monitored 374 mines, identifying over 6,500 minor hazards and 29 major issues. As a result, 15 mines were permanently closed, 195 mines were temporarily shut down, 23 licenses were revoked, and fines totaling 1.2 million yuan were issued. The proactive measures taken by Shanxi demonstrate a strong commitment to enhancing coal mine safety standards and reducing risks for workers. While these efforts have yielded significant results, there is still room for further improvement. Moving forward, it will be crucial for the province to maintain these rigorous safety protocols and ensure long-term compliance across all mining operations.
