Use of safety helmets

At a power construction site, workers wear hard hats primarily to protect their heads from potential injuries. These helmets are designed to safeguard the head in various hazardous situations, including: 1. When a falling or flying object strikes the head. 2. When an employee falls from a height of 2 meters or more. 3. When there is a risk of electric shock to the head. 4. When walking or working in low areas where the head might hit sharp or hard objects. Wearing a safety helmet correctly is crucial for maximum protection. If used improperly, it may not offer the necessary defense. Here are some important points to consider: Before putting on the helmet, adjust the rear cap adjustment strap according to your head shape and secure the inner elastic strap. The cushioning pad’s elasticity is controlled by this strap. The vertical distance between the top of your head and the inside of the helmet should generally be between 25 and 50 mm, with a minimum of 32 mm. This ensures sufficient space for impact absorption and improves ventilation around the head. Never wear the helmet tilted back or with the brim behind your head, as this reduces its protective ability. The chin strap must be fastened under the jaw securely to prevent it from being blown off or knocked off during movement. Some helmets have small ventilation holes, but do not open these during use, as it can weaken the structure. Safety helmets may get damaged over time, so regular inspections are essential. Check for cracks, dents, or wear. If any damage is found, replace the helmet immediately. Any helmet that has been severely impacted or cracked should be discarded, even if no visible damage is present. It is not allowed to use a helmet without a buffer layer inside. Construction workers should never remove their helmets, place them aside, or use them as a seat cushion while on site. Most safety helmets are made of high-density polyethylene, which can become brittle or discolored when exposed to sunlight for long periods. Always keep helmets clean and away from fire sources. Avoid painting them or sitting on them to prevent damage. If a helmet is lost or damaged, replace it immediately. When purchasing new helmets, check for certification from the labor department and ensure that all components—such as the padding, adjustment straps, and elastic bands—are intact and functional. If any part is missing or defective, do not use the helmet. Even indoors, it's important to wear a safety helmet, especially in enclosed spaces where head collisions or electrical hazards may occur. A helmet not only protects against impacts but also provides insulation. Finally, always treat your helmet with care. Never leave it unattended or expose it to unnecessary risks. A properly maintained helmet is your first line of defense on a construction site.
