Vietnam is the fourth largest shoe producer in the world

In 2010, Vietnam is expected to obtain 5.2 billion U.S. dollars in export earnings from footwear exports.

On September 7, an international shoe conference was held in Ho Chi Minh City. Representatives from Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, the United States, and Germany attended the conference.

The delegates discussed measures to promote sales in the domestic market and the favorable conditions and difficulties for exporters.

Qi Wenqing, secretary general of the Ho Chi Minh City Footwear Association, said that the meeting will help Vietnamese businessmen learn from other countries. In the near future, Ho Chi Minh City Shoe Leather Association will enter the South African market. In November, Vietnamese domestic businessmen will conduct a fact-finding survey of the South African market.

At present, Asia’s footwear production accounts for 70% of the world’s total footwear supply.

With high export growth, Vietnam has become the world’s fourth largest supplier of shoes. In 2010, footwear export revenue is expected to reach US$5.2 billion.

In order to promote the development of the footwear sector, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam approved an overall development plan for the year 2020 and a vision for 2025. Vietnam’s shoe and leather division’s goal is to generate $13 billion in revenue in 2020, increasing the utilization of domestic raw materials from the current 30-35% to 70%.

During the conference, an international footwear material and machinery exhibition was held on September 8. Over 120 production companies from 13 Asian and European countries exhibited their products at 200 booths.
