The Qatar Sustainability Expo (QSE) recently took place at the Doha Exhibition Center, drawing attention from global innovators and sustainability enthusiasts. Among the highlights was the official debut of the Tesla Roadster, the world’s first mass-produced solar-powered electric convertible. Developed through a collaboration between Qatar Solar Technology (QSTec) and Solarworld, this groundbreaking vehicle made its Middle Eastern premiere at the event.
This high-performance sports car boasts an impressive range of 300 kilometers on a single charge, with a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of just 3.6 seconds. What sets it apart is its power source: cutting-edge solar technology that enables zero carbon dioxide emissions during operation. The solar panels used in the Tesla Roadster were developed by SolarWorld and SunCarport, two leaders in renewable energy solutions.
Compared to traditional electric vehicles, SunCarport offers performance that rivals supercars while maintaining a clean, eco-friendly approach. This innovation marks a significant step forward in the evolution of sustainable transportation. With its combination of speed, efficiency, and environmental responsibility, the Tesla Roadster is redefining what's possible for electric vehicles.
Dr. Khalid Klefeekh Al Hajri, CEO of QSTec, emphasized the growing importance of clean energy in driving sustainable development. He praised the Tesla Roadster for challenging long-held perceptions that electric vehicles lack performance. According to him, technologies like SunCarport are not only advancing the field of new energy but also unlocking new potential for future innovations in green mobility.
