Japan’s Kyushu Institute of Technology announced on the 10th that the small satellite “Fenglong 2†developed by the university has successfully used 300-volt high-voltage power generation for the first time in space.
When the satellites were located about 680 kilometers above Kitakyushu on the afternoon of the 8th, the researchers conducted a power generation experiment and successfully realized high voltage power generation of 300 volts for the first time, far exceeding the maximum 160 volt power generation record ever created by the International Space Station.
Zhao Mengyou, a professor at the Kyushu Institute of Technology who directs the project, pointed out that because of the large number of charged particles in the space, there is a danger of high voltage power generation. Therefore, it is necessary to cover the solar cell with a special transparent film to prevent discharge.
The project leader Okada, who is a graduate student of Kyushu Institute of Technology, also said: "To build a larger space facility than the International Space Station requires the application of high-voltage power generation technology, and this success is a major improvement."
The "Feng Long 2" small satellite was launched on a Japanese H2A rocket in May this year. Its main mission is to conduct space power generation experiments.
