US R & D review color recognition software can recognize real laugh smirk

Really laugh or smirk? The mouse can see through

MIT recently developed a new software that anyone can use if they have a little training

Who is smirking and who is smirking, can you see it at a glance? Computer software tells us that the above is funny, and the following is a smirk.

Laughter is one of the most popular expressions in people's daily life. In many cases, all kinds of smiles do not all come from the heart, and smirks are usually very similar to funny ones. Not everyone has a strong ability to observe words. MIT recently developed a new computer software that can clearly know whether you are smiling or smiling. Anyone can use this technique to identify true and false smiles with just a little training.

Observations

Computer software accuracy up to 92%

Ordinary people need to communicate with others based on the external environment in order to identify the information contained in the expressions of others. We humans are sensitive to the subtleties of expression. This is where humans are different from machines. There have been some developments in computer facial recognition technology and no breakthrough has been achieved in recent years. However, researchers at MIT have made achievements in this area. Their newly developed technology can even judge the true feelings behind a smile. According to an article "Transactions on Affective Computing" published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) magazine, MIT media lab graduates Mohammad Hawke, Daniel McDeave and The emotional computer research and development team composed of Rosalind Piccard co-developed a software that was very sensitive to the subtleties of human expression and even surpassed humanity itself.

Emotional computer research and development team members conducted two different facial expression tests on the participants. First of all, they let the experimenter watch a video of a group of cute babies and let them show a true happy smile in front of the computer camera. Then, they asked the participants to fill out a large piece of information about themselves on the computer. After clicking the "Submit" button, the participants found that all the information they filled in was deleted, and 90% of the participants spontaneously showed their frustration. Smile. Through the two groups of cameras recorded images, the researchers found that the same expression may show different emotions.

Emotional computer R&D team members found through the observation and calculation modes of the two subtleties of the expression: real smiles usually come in slower or even repeated situations; and frustrated smiles usually come quickly and disappear quickly; Although the appearance looks almost like a smile, fake and true smiles also have different muscle performances. Muhammad Hoke and his colleagues have integrated human psychology and computer identification to effectively distinguish testers' expressions. The accuracy rate can reach 92%, and the accuracy of human emotion discrimination through smiles can only be more than half.
