A systematic approach involving three key investigations can help identify issues effectively. 1. **Listening**: One of the most common methods for identifying irregularities in bearing operation is through sound. Using tools like a screwdriver or an electronic stethoscope, operators can detect unusual noises. A well-functioning SKF bearing typically produces a low humming sound. If sharp noises, screeching, or irregular sounds are heard, it may indicate that the bearing is deteriorating or operating under poor conditions. 2. **Touching**: High temperatures often signal abnormal operation. Check the lubrication system to ensure proper oil or grease is being supplied, and observe if the lubricant changes color or becomes dark, which may indicate contamination and could harm the bearing’s performance.
