Many workers often make mistakes when installing fire barriers. One common issue is that when the height of the plaster reaches the level of the fire barrier, the rock wool becomes separated from the wall corner. This can lead to gaps and weaken the effectiveness of the fire protection system.
When pasting the rock wool, it's essential to ensure that the direction of the paste is perpendicular to the fiber direction of the rock wool. This is because the rock wool used in fireproof isolation belts is manufactured using a pendulum method, which results in lower tensile strength along the fiber direction. By applying the material perpendicular to the fibers, you maximize the structural integrity and meet the required tensile demands of the insulation system.
In my experience, following these steps ensures a more reliable and effective installation. However, it's important to note that the fire insulation barrier is an integral part of the external thermal insulation system. The entire system typically includes seven key components: the base wall layer, anchor bolts, adhesive, fire insulation board, external insulation material, plastering layer, and fiberglass mesh.
Since different insulation materials are used in the external insulation system, after completing the weather resistance test, a wind pressure test must also be conducted. This ensures the system’s stability and safety under real-world conditions.
The fire insulation board must be installed with the same thickness as the rest of the insulation system and should be constructed simultaneously with the external insulation. It should not be placed or left out later. Leaving space for the fire barrier during construction can compromise the overall performance of the system.
Proper planning and attention to detail are crucial when installing fire barriers. Taking the time to follow best practices will significantly improve the durability and safety of the building’s insulation system.
