Research and Analysis of Refractory Materials for Hood Furnaces

1. Status of Bladder Furnace Lining Refractories

The refractory lining in the former hood furnace is typically constructed using traditional refractory bricks. However, these materials suffer from high thermal conductivity and density, which makes them vulnerable to thermal shock and rapid temperature changes. As a result, they tend to degrade quickly during operation, leading to high energy consumption and short service life, especially in high-temperature areas such as burners. This has created an urgent need for more advanced and durable refractory solutions to replace conventional bricks and imported materials.

2. Recent Advances in Special Refractories Application

Through years of research and practical application, our factory has developed specialized refractories tailored for bell-type furnaces. These materials can be customized in terms of bulk density, size, and shape to meet the specific requirements of different furnace sections. One of our key innovations is the lightweight fiber brick, which features a bulk density ranging from 260 to 500 kg/m³. It contains over 99% Al₂O₃ + SiO₂, with a compressive strength of 200 kPa and a flexural strength of 350 kPa. Its thermal conductivity is less than 0.24 W/m·K at 1250°C, and it exhibits a shrinkage rate of less than 2% after re-shrinkage. The maximum operating temperature reaches up to 1550°C, making it highly suitable for demanding industrial applications.

For instance, a large enterprise has successfully replaced over 40 hearth furnaces with our refractory bricks and imported materials, achieving significant improvements in efficiency and durability. In addition, this year, another cold rolling plant implemented a brand-new design using lightweight fiber bricks, converting 15 fully hydrogen-fired dome furnaces simultaneously. The technology for replacing traditional refractories with domestically produced alternatives has now reached a mature stage, offering reliable and cost-effective solutions for industrial furnace upgrades.

As the demand for energy-efficient and long-lasting furnace systems continues to grow, the adoption of advanced refractory materials is becoming increasingly essential. Our ongoing research and development efforts ensure that we remain at the forefront of innovation in this field, providing customers with high-performance solutions that enhance productivity and reduce maintenance costs.
